Bioinformatics Machine Learning Expert (Remote, Contract, $175/hr) — AfterQuery via AI Gig Scout

AfterQuery is hiring machine learning professionals with deep bioinformatics expertise for remote, project-based contract work listed at $175/hr. Tasks sit at the intersection of ML and biological data analysis, including model development, pipeline construction and research tasks on real genomic, transcriptomic or multi-omics datasets. Work is asynchronous and assigned project by project, with an expected 10–20 hours per week for the projects you accept.

What you will do: apply machine learning to genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic or multi-omics data; build, train and evaluate models for applications such as variant calling, gene expression analysis or pathway modeling; develop supervised and unsupervised predictive models for biological systems; design and optimize reproducible bioinformatics pipelines with ML components; and document methods and assumptions clearly.

Requirements: a published researcher with at least one first-author peer-reviewed publication; demonstrated expertise in both machine learning and bioinformatics; strong independent problem-solving; and a Master's or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, data science or a related field. Preferred: experience with tools such as GATK, STAR, DESeq2, Nextflow or Snakemake, teaching experience in bioinformatics, ML or computational biology, and familiarity with biological foundation models or omics ML frameworks (e.g. scVI, DNABERT, Enformer).
