Senior Data Scientist / Data Engineering Expert, AI lab project (Remote, Contract) — Mercor via AI Gig Scout

Mercor is working with a leading AI research lab on a project to improve how AI systems do real-world data science and data engineering work, and is looking for senior data scientists and data engineers with deep experience at top technology, quantitative or financial firms to train and evaluate frontier AI models. It is a remote contractor role listed at $120–$180/hr and 40 hours a week, open to candidates based in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.

You will design realistic, challenging data science and data engineering tasks (exploratory analyses, statistical modeling, machine learning pipelines, ETL and data pipeline design, SQL and Python workflows, experimentation or A/B test write-ups); write precise, task-specific criteria that show what good deliverables look like; apply consistent, evidence-based judgment so assessments are reproducible and defensible; and iterate on your work based on structured feedback from senior reviewers.

Requirements: 4+ years of professional data science, data engineering or machine learning experience at a leading technology or quantitative firm (FAANG+, Magnificent 7+, top-tier quant funds or equivalent) with a mid-senior title (Applied Scientist, Research Scientist and ML Engineer/Scientist roles also qualify), a top financial institution, a top-tier consulting firm as a data scientist, or a Fortune 100 company at senior or manager level (experience may be split across employers); strong command of Python, SQL, statistical modeling, machine learning, experimentation and causal inference; proven ability to turn messy real-world data into rigorous analyses and reliable pipelines; excellent written English; and a Bachelor's degree from an English-speaking country.
