Open Source Maintainer / Core Contributor, Software Engineer (Remote US, Full-time, $150/hr) — Mercor via AI Gig Scout

Mercor is looking for open-source maintainers and core contributors, based in the United States, to join a leading AI lab's GenAI team at $150/hr. This is a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, as a W-2 employment position with Cincinnatus LLC, with placement at a leading AI lab as part of its extended workforce.

What you will do: design challenging, realistic engineering tasks grounded in the open-source codebase you know best (the features, refactors and bug fixes a maintainer would assign) and write accurate reference solutions; evaluate AI-written code, tests and grading rubrics against the repository's architecture, conventions and quality bar; build, run and test the project locally, including with Docker; and write precise rationales explaining what a strong solution looks like and where AI-generated changes fall short.

Qualifications: maintainer (named in MAINTAINERS or CODEOWNERS, or 10+ PR reviews in the last 12 months) or core contributor (3+ substantive merged PRs in the last 12 months) of a widely used open-source project that is 2+ years old, has real users and an active code review culture; years of sustained, verifiable open-source contributions on your own GitHub account; senior-level code review judgment; the ability to work 40 hours/week on weekdays on an exclusive basis (no other full-time role or AI training projects); US work authorization on a W-2 basis; and willingness to complete background checks and confidentiality agreements and work on a company-provided device.
